LightScribe Software Support
.
In this section,we will tackle the biggest cause of all LightScribe problems – Software configuration errors…
Over the years I have developed a systematic approach to getting to the cause of people’s problems by having folks go through a step-by-step process that eliminates each software glitch one-by-one…
This has in the past been carried out by email and involves going back and forth suggesting the next possible cause, and then it’s cure.
This obviously includes feedback with the person I am trying to help, which is not possible here (unless you Contact Me directly) so what I am doing here is to outline the steps you need to follow in order to route out the problem.
As you will see, some do not always apply…
Firstly a disclaimer… This is only for PC users, I’m sorry but I have no experience with Mac’s, let alone LightScribe and Mac, If you have Mac issues, contact me and I will do my best to point you in the right direction…
So enough of the intro lets get to it… 🙂

AOL LightScribe Issue
Some years back I started to get a series of problems with LightScribe that defied all normal approaches, then by chance I came across this in a forum. Although not related to LightScribe I have found that this issue can also cause configuration problems ‘sometimes’ for AOL users.
Here is the question asked the forum:
When I try to get in a chat room or check a profile on messenger. I get this error message. “The application has failed to start because xprt6.dll was not found, reinstalling the application may fix the problem. how do I reinstall this application. I have tried deleting messenger and reinstalling that but it does no good…anyone out there had this problem and how do I fix it…
And solution:
Found it on my computer! Been having the same sort of problem. Located at: C:\\program files\common files\aol\1185384694\ee\xprt6.dll I copied it to the system32 file and that seems to have resolved the problem.
Since then I have always advised anyone running AOL Messenger or for that matter any AOL service to check this as a first resort before we head off into more generic LightScribe issues…
.
Intel Application Accelerator
This is another of those ‘odd’ issues that sometimes cause problems.
If you have been around LightScribe any length of time you soon realize that the problems do not happen to everybody and even if the setups are very similar (same OS, same labeling app, same discs…) the likelihood is that it is just another piece of software that is causing the LightScribe system to fail… Fun eh… 🙂
So onward…
It is worth checking if the Intel Applicator Accelerator utility is installed on your computer as I said this may be interfering with the communications with your LightScribe drive. You can easily verify that this program is installed by checking “Start\Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs,” and check for an entry under “Intel Application Accelerator.” If this program is installed on your computer, you have the option of uninstalling it through “Add or Remove Programs,”.
Oh, don’t worry as Intel say this is an optional add-on and is not necessary for the operation of your PC.
.
System Software Install
Problems installing the System Software are usually confined to conflicts with Anti-Virus software trying to prevent it making the necessary changes to the Registry… Turning off the said AV software during install fixes that…
If you still have problems installing the System Software, Contact Me as I will need more specific system info in order to help you.
.
Windows 10 and Windows 11
If you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11 you will need to install the System Software using Windows 7 or 8.0 compatibility settings.
The Windows 10/11 installer will in most cases choose the best for you just go with ‘its’ recommendations.
.
After System Software
Please go through the following steps, they will eliminate the problem in most cases… I would love to say 100% of the time but, well LightScribe is just not like that… As I have already said, what works in one case may not work in every case… There are just too many variables… But this process goes a very long way in sorting things out…
Let’s go…
.
System Software as Service
We need to establish that the system software is running automatically as a service.
If you don’t already know how to check this, follow this sequence:
For Win XP, Vista
Go to Control Panel
Then – Performance and Maintenance
Then – Administrative Tools
Then – Services
For Win 7 -11
Start
Search for Services
Now go down the list until you come to:
LightScribeService
Status should be Started
Startup Type should be Automatic

LightScribe Services
If you have had to change this, try burning a label again.
Often just stopping the service and rebooting your PC then restarting it and rebooting again, solves the problem.
Now try labeling a disc again…
.
Diagnostic Software
If this has not solved the problem, you will now need to delve a little deeper!
Due to the many configuration problems associated with LightScribe, HP (as I’m sure you know, the creators of LightScribe) have produced a diagnostic program.

Now try to burn a disc label again!
.
In Conclusion
Hopefully, you have now solved the problem and are now able to create some great LightScribe labels.
However, if none of this solves your particular problem please feel free to contact me and we can delve a little deeper into the possible causes…
Please let me know how you get on – I just love to receive success stories!
All my best,.
